Kipkelion East Member of Parliament Joseph Cherorot has challenged students to uphold discipline, work hard in their studies and remain focused on their aspirations.

Cherorot observed that education remains the most effective tool for transforming lives and communities.

Speaking at a school function in the constituency, he urged learners to make wise decisions and remain committed to their education, noting that success is built on determination, integrity and consistency.

“Education is the greatest investment you can make in your future. Remain disciplined, work hard and make prudent decisions because the choices you make today will determine the opportunities available to you tomorrow,” said Cherorot.

The legislator cautioned students against negative influences that could derail their academic progress, urging them to stay focused on their ambitions.

“Avoid distractions that can interfere with your studies. Set clear goals, remain committed to achieving them and take advantage of every educational opportunity available to build successful careers and contribute to the development of our country,” he said.

MP praises teachers and education investment

Cherorot commended teachers for their dedication to nurturing learners academically and morally.

“Our teachers continue to shape responsible citizens and future leaders through their commitment and sacrifice. We appreciate the important role they play in guiding our children,” he said.

The MP reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening the education sector in Kipkelion East through continued investment in school infrastructure and learner support programmes.

“Education remains one of the key pillars of my development agenda. We will continue investing in classrooms, laboratories and other learning facilities while supporting bursary programmes to ensure every child has access to quality education,” he said.

Through the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF), Cherorot has overseen the construction and expansion of classrooms, laboratories and administration blocks in public schools across the constituency, easing congestion and improving the learning environment.

He has also championed bursary programmes for students from vulnerable families, enabling many learners to remain in school despite financial challenges.

The legislator said his office would continue working with school boards, teachers, parents and the Ministry of Education to improve education standards and ensure every learner has an opportunity to realise their full potential.

MP backs university funding model

He also defended the government’s university funding model, saying it was designed to ensure that all students receive financial support based on their level of need.

“The university funding model is intended to ensure that every deserving student receives sufficient financial support to pursue higher education. It is a fair system that considers the different economic backgrounds of learners, and I urge parents, students and other stakeholders to support its implementation,” said Cherorot.

Cherorot also noted that the model would promote equitable access to university education by directing government scholarships and loans to students according to their financial circumstances. He added that the government would continue addressing emerging challenges to make the system more efficient and responsive to the needs of learners.
