Mitua Girls Senior School has successfully elected a new Student Council through a transparent and democratic secret ballot exercise aimed at strengthening student leadership, accountability and participation in school governance.
The election, conducted within the school grounds, saw students turn out in large numbers to cast their votes in an orderly and peaceful process. The use of the secret ballot ensured that every learner exercised her democratic right freely, fairly and without intimidation.
The exercise was officiated by Deputy Principal Esther Wambulwa, who commended the students for demonstrating maturity, discipline and respect for the electoral process. She noted that the election was designed not only to identify student leaders but also to instil the values of integrity, responsibility and active citizenship among learners.
Wambulwa said the school places great emphasis on nurturing leadership skills alongside academic excellence, adding that the Student Council serves as an important bridge between the administration and the student body.
“The election process gives every student an opportunity to participate in decision-making while learning the principles of democracy, transparency and accountability. We are proud of the orderly manner in which our students conducted themselves throughout the exercise,” she said.
Chief Principal Angelina Kosgei congratulated the newly elected Student Council, describing the election as a significant milestone in empowering learners to take up leadership responsibilities.
She said the school remains committed to cultivating responsible leaders who will not only excel academically but also contribute positively to society.
Kosgei urges leaders to embrace service
“Leadership begins with service. By allowing students to elect their own leaders through a democratic process, we are preparing them to become responsible citizens who appreciate the importance of fairness, inclusivity and accountability,” said Kosgei.
She encouraged the newly elected student leaders to serve with humility, honesty and dedication while working closely with the school administration to promote discipline, unity and academic excellence.

Kosgei further urged all students to support the new leadership, emphasising that effective governance within the school requires cooperation between student leaders, teachers and the entire student community.
