- More than 300 former day school students who scored C+ and above receive Sh10,000 each.
- Inua Masomo programme also supports 2,500 learners drawn from day secondary schools across Murang’a County.

More than 300 students who attended day secondary schools in Murang’a County and attained a C+ and above in the KCSE examination have received Sh10,000 each to support their transition to universities and colleges.
The support was issued by the Murang’a County Government under its Inua Masomo Bursary programme as Governor Irungu Kang’ata reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ensuring that deserving students are not denied opportunities to pursue further education because of financial constraints.
The county also issued bursaries to 2,500 learners through the programme, which targets the top 10 students in every day secondary school across Murang’a.
Speaking during Murang’a Education Day, Kang’ata said testimonies from beneficiaries demonstrated the role the bursary programme has played in keeping learners in school.
“We have listened to testimonies of the students who went through the day schools that the bursary supported them to completion of the secondary school studies,” said Kang’ata.
The county also recognised and awarded top-performing Grade 10 students from Murang’a day secondary schools for their academic performance, with the governor saying the initiative is intended to reward excellence and motivate learners to aim higher.
750 MYS youths graduate
During the event, 750 youths enrolled in the Murang’a Youth Service (MYS) also graduated, bringing to 9,450 the number of young people who have gone through the programme since its inception.
“After months of community service and technical training in Vocational Training Centres, the graduates will receive Sh15,000 seed capital each to acquire tools and business start-ups,” Kang’ata said.
The governor further directed that businesses established by the graduates be exempted from county taxes, giving the young entrepreneurs a head start as they venture into self-employment.
The MYS programme recruits young people through a balloting process before engaging them in three months of community service.
Participants earn Sh400 per day, with Sh300 paid directly to them and Sh100 going to their parents or guardians.
They are subsequently enrolled in vocational training before graduating with practical skills intended to prepare them for employment, entrepreneurship and self-reliance.
County targets education and youth empowerment
Murang’a Education Day brought together students, parents, teachers and other education stakeholders to celebrate academic achievement while showcasing the county government’s investment in education, skills development and youth empowerment.
Through initiatives such as Inua Masomo and the Murang’a Youth Service, the county administration says it is seeking to build an educated, skilled and economically empowered generation.

The programmes combine financial support for learners with vocational training and entrepreneurship assistance for young people as the county seeks to improve access to education while expanding opportunities for economic self-reliance.
