The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has withdrawn an advertisement announcing 34,016 promotion vacancies for teachers for the 2026/2027 financial year after errors were detected in the document.
The advertisement, which had been uploaded on the Commission’s website, was pulled down shortly after publication to allow corrections to be made before an updated version is uploaded.
Teachers who had already accessed or shared copies of the withdrawn advertisement have consequently been advised to await the corrected version before taking further action.
Those who circulated the document through WhatsApp groups, Facebook pages and other social media platforms have also been urged to inform teachers that the version currently in circulation has been withdrawn.
The development means teachers seeking promotions should wait for the corrected advertisement to be published through the Commission’s official channels.
The withdrawn advertisement had announced 34,016 promotion vacancies across primary and secondary schools, Special Needs Education institutions and Teachers Training Colleges.
It covered numerous teaching and administrative positions, including Chief Principal, Senior Principal, Principal, Deputy Principal, Senior Lecturer, Senior Master, Secondary Teacher I, Headteacher, Deputy Headteacher, Senior Teacher and Curriculum Support Officer.
The document had indicated that applications would be submitted online, with Monday, August 10, 2026, given as the closing date.
It had also stated that manual applications would not be considered and that successful candidates would be posted to stations where vacancies exist.
Among the positions contained in the withdrawn document were 13,490 Senior Teacher II vacancies, which constituted the largest single category.
It also contained 5,956 Senior Master IV positions, 4,210 Senior Teacher I vacancies and 3,075 Deputy Headteacher II positions, alongside thousands of other vacancies distributed across different grades.
The withdrawal is therefore significant for thousands of teachers who had begun examining the advertisement to determine their eligibility for promotion.
Teachers should, however, avoid using the withdrawn document as the final basis for applications because some of its details could change once TSC publishes the corrected version.
The Commission is expected to upload the corrected 2026/2027 promotion advertisement once the identified errors have been addressed.
Teachers should therefore rely on the new document once it is officially published and carefully check the number of vacancies, eligibility requirements, advert numbers, grades and application timelines against the withdrawn version.
The promotion exercise comes amid pressure on TSC to address career stagnation among teachers who have remained in the same grades for several years.
In May, TSC Acting Chief Executive Officer Evaleen Mitei told the National Assembly’s Education Committee that the Commission planned to promote more than 30,000 teachers before the end of 2026.

The 34,016 vacancies contained in the subsequently withdrawn advertisement represented one of the largest teacher promotion exercises in recent years and were expected to provide advancement opportunities across several cadres.
