  • Applications must be submitted online by Monday, August 10, 2026.

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has advertised 34,016 promotion vacancies for teachers, opening opportunities across primary and secondary schools, Special Needs Education (SNE) institutions and Teachers Training Colleges (TTCs).

The vacancies, contained in 30 separate advertisements, range from Senior Teacher II at T-Scale 7 to Chief Principal at T-Scale 15 and also include curriculum support positions. Applications will be considered in accordance with the Career Progression Guidelines.

In the advertisement, the Commission said it “invites applications from suitably qualified teachers” for the positions.

TSC has directed eligible teachers to apply online through its recruitment portal, with applications required to reach the Commission no later than Monday, August 10, 2026.

“Manual applications shall not be considered,” the Commission said, making the online process mandatory for all applicants.

The Commission further stated that it “is an equal opportunity employer and Persons with Disability are encouraged to apply.”

Successful applicants will not necessarily remain at their current stations, with TSC making it clear that appointments will be determined by existing staffing gaps.

“Successful candidates will be posted where the vacancies exist,” the Commission said.

Those who succeed at the interview stage will also be required to comply with constitutional integrity requirements before receiving their appointments.

“Candidates who are successful in the interviews shall be required to present valid Chapter 6 documents before they are appointed,” TSC said.

Primary schools take largest share

The biggest single allocation is 13,490 Senior Teacher II positions at T-Scale 7 (C2), targeting teachers who have served as Primary Teacher I at T-Scale 6 (C1) for at least three years.

Another 4,210 vacancies have been advertised for Senior Teacher I at T-Scale 8 (C3). Applicants must have served as Senior Teacher II at T-Scale 7 (C2) for at least three years.

TSC has also announced 3,075 Deputy Headteacher II vacancies at T-Scale 9 (C4) in regular institutions, alongside another 20 Deputy Headteacher II positions in SNE institutions. Applicants for the regular positions should have served as Senior Teacher I at T-Scale 8 (C3) for at least three years.

At the next level, the Commission is seeking to fill 1,865 Deputy Headteacher I positions in regular schools and another 20 in SNE institutions. Eligible candidates should have served as Deputy Headteacher II at T-Scale 9 (C4) for a minimum of three years.

There are a further 199 Senior Headteacher vacancies in regular institutions and five in SNE institutions. For the regular positions, applicants should have served as Headteacher or Deputy Headteacher I at T-Scale 10 (C5) for at least three years.

Thousands of secondary school positions

Secondary school teachers also account for a significant proportion of the promotions, including 5,956 Senior Master IV positions at T-Scale 9 (C4).

To qualify for Senior Master IV, an applicant must have served as Secondary Teacher I at T-Scale 8 (C3) for at least three years.

The advertisements further provide 1,665 Senior Master III vacancies at T-Scale 10 (C5) for teachers who have served as Senior Master IV at T-Scale 9 (C4) for a minimum of three years.

Another 272 Senior Master II positions at T-Scale 11 (D1) and two Senior Master I positions at T-Scale 12 (D2) have been advertised.

At deputy principal level, TSC is recruiting for 1,068 Deputy Principal III positions in regular institutions and five in SNE institutions. Candidates for the regular positions must have served as Senior Master III at T-Scale 10 (C5) for at least three years.

There are also 891 Deputy Principal II vacancies in regular schools. TSC has particularly encouraged teachers already carrying out the responsibilities of principals to seek promotion.

“All teachers currently performing the duties of a Principal are encouraged to apply,” the Commission said.

The next tier comprises 770 Deputy Principal I vacancies in regular schools, seven in TTCs and six in SNE institutions.

Unlike many of the other categories requiring three years in the preceding grade, candidates for Deputy Principal I must have served as Deputy Principal II or Senior Master I at T-Scale 12 (D2) for a minimum of six months.

At the senior school leadership level, TSC has advertised 148 Senior Principal positions for regular institutions and seven for TTCs.

Applicants for Senior Principal positions in regular institutions must have served as Principal or Deputy Principal I at T-Scale 13 (D3) for at least three years.

The highest-ranking vacancies comprise 54 Chief Principal positions in regular institutions and seven Chief Principal positions in TTCs, all at T-Scale 15 (D5).

For the regular Chief Principal positions, candidates must have served as Senior Principal at T-Scale 14 (D4) for at least three years. TTC applicants require equivalent experience specifically within a Teachers Training College.

TTC, SNE and curriculum support vacancies

The promotion exercise extends beyond regular primary and secondary schools to TTCs, SNE institutions and curriculum support services.

TTC opportunities include seven Chief Principal, seven Senior Principal, seven Deputy Principal I, 15 Senior Lecturer I, 34 Senior Lecturer II, 44 Senior Lecturer III and 51 Senior Lecturer IV positions.

For example, Senior Lecturer IV applicants must have served as Lecturer I at T-Scale 8 (C3) for at least three years, while Senior Lecturer III candidates require three years of service as Lecturer IV at T-Scale 9 (C4).

TSC has similarly provided dedicated vacancies for teachers serving learners with special needs.

These include six Deputy Principal I, five Deputy Principal III, five Senior Headteacher, 20 Deputy Headteacher I and 20 Deputy Headteacher II positions in SNE institutions.

Curriculum support officers have also been included, with 34 Curriculum Support Officer I positions for regular institutions and seven for SNE.

Another 69 Curriculum Support Officer II positions have been advertised. Applicants must have served as Senior Master IV (C4) or Deputy Headteacher II (C4) at the prescribed T-Scale for at least three years.

The advertisements additionally provide 20 Secondary Teacher I vacancies at T-Scale 8 (C3), targeting diploma teachers who have served as Secondary Teacher II at T-Scale 7 (C2) for at least three years.

Performance appraisal central to promotions

Across virtually all the advertised positions, TSC has maintained several common conditions alongside the prescribed period of service in the preceding grade.

Candidates are required to have “obtained a satisfactory rating in the performance appraisal process.”

They must also have “demonstrated ability to supervise, mentor and provide professional support to other teachers,” a requirement repeated throughout the advertisements.

Applicants will additionally be expected to “meet any other requirement deemed necessary by the Commission.”

The minimum period of service in the preceding grade is generally three years across most categories, although Deputy Principal I positions in regular institutions, TTCs and SNE institutions require candidates to have served for a minimum of six months at T-Scale 12 (D2).

The promotion exercise covers career progression from C1 through C2, C3, C4 and C5 to the senior administrative grades of D1, D2, D3, D4 and ultimately D5.

Background

TSC is established under Article 237(1) of the Constitution and is mandated to manage the teaching service.

Promotion of teachers forms part of the Commission’s human-resource mandate and is undertaken within the Career Progression Guidelines, which set out the grades, experience and professional requirements teachers must satisfy when advancing through the service.

The latest exercise covers teachers and institutional administrators at different levels of the public education system, including regular schools, special needs institutions and TTCs.
