Riokindo National High School Chief Principal Gerald Orina has declared his intention to contest the Borabu Parliamentary seat in Nyamira County during the 2027 General Elections, joining a race that is set to feature at least one other high-profile aspirant.
Orina made the declaration while addressing voters at his Mekenene residence in Mekenene Ward, telling them he was ready to seek their mandate. “My name is Gerald Orina Nyangwara of Mekenene Ward. This is to assure you that I will vie for the Borabu Parliamentary seat and I now seek your mandate as I promise to bring you the best services,” he said.
He presented himself to residents as an experienced educationist and administrator with a track record of leading some of the country’s top senior schools. Orina currently serves as Chief Principal at Riokindo National High School in Nyamira County, a position he holds after previously serving as Chief Principal at Nyambaria National School, also in Nyamira County, where he oversaw a period of strong academic performance that placed the school among the top performers nationally. Earlier in his career, he held a leadership role at Kakamega National School, one of the oldest and largest national schools in Western Kenya, where he gained experience managing large institutions with diverse student populations.

Residents who attended the declaration said Orina’s background in education gives him an advantage, arguing that Borabu needs a leader who understands issues of schools, youth, and service delivery. They further noted that his experience managing national schools has exposed him to government systems, budgeting, and stakeholder management, skills they said would serve him well in Parliament.
In his address, Orina promised to prioritise education, infrastructure, youth empowerment, and access to government services if elected, saying his years in school leadership had instilled in him discipline, accountability, and delivery, values he intends to carry into Parliament.
Patrick Osero currently holds the Borabu Parliamentary seat. Other aspirants who have shown interest in the seat include firebrand political activist and lawyer Morara Kebaso. With Orina now formally in the race, political activity in Borabu is expected to intensify in the coming months as more candidates position themselves ahead of party nominations.
