- Kitondo boys rugby team defeated defending champions All Saints Embu 7-5 in the Eastern region games.
- Coach Michael Satia said opponents underrated his small-bodied but tough players, some of whom are in Grade 10.
- The team now targets nationals and East Africa level after securing their regional title.
Having small bodies unlike the usual big bodies for rugby players made the opponent and defending champions underrate the Kitondo boys rugby team, enabling the tough small-bodied boys to beat All Saints Embu 7-5.
The team, under coach Michael Satia, thanked the principal and the whole school for their support, adding that they are aiming for East Africa. Having qualified for nationals, which is not new to them, they have been there severally and even at East Africa level.
Underrated but Victorious
“We are now the defending champions in the region. One thing I’m happy about is that our opponents underrated the small-bodied boys I have as my team, some of whom are in Grade 10 but very tough and enthusiastic. I’m extremely happy. This team does not rest even if it’s not games time, we keep on practicing but remember they are very good in class as well,” Satia said.
The coach likened the competition to that of Goliath, referring to All Saints, with his team of David, referring to his small boys of Kitondo.
“Though we will go to nationals as a county, we will be representing our school as well,” Satia added.

Captain David Ochieng attributed the win to the consistency of the team, appreciating the principal for letting them stay in school over the holidays and midterm for more practice, which has finally yielded results. Ochieng added that they are looking forward to the East Africa level.
