Students from St. Jacinta Girls Secondary School Chebororwa took to the streets to protest the transfer of their Principal, Madam Rose Menjo.
The students marched from their school in Chebororwa all the way to Kapsowar, chanting and carrying placards through the town as they pressed their demand for the immediate reinstatement of their school Principal.
Despite the tension the protest generated in Kapsowar, the girls conducted themselves peacefully throughout, presenting their grievances to officials rather than resorting to the destruction of school property or unruly conduct often associated with student protests.
“We want our Principal back. She has led us well, and we are performing because of her leadership,” one of the students told reporters outside the education offices.
At the centre of the dispute is Madam Menjo’s transfer to Kapkolei Girls in Nandi County, which comes barely six months after she reported to St. Jacinta Girls.

Before the students took to the streets, the matter had already been raised at a meeting held at the school and led by Marakwet West Teachers Service Commission Director Mr. Cheruiyot. According to the students, however, that meeting ended in a deadlock and failed to resolve their concerns over the transfer, prompting them to escalate their demands by marching directly to the sub-county education offices.
Speaking to the students at the offices, Cheruiyot urged them to return to school as authorities worked toward a lasting solution to the impasse. He assured them that the changes being made were not intended to destabilise the institution, though he did not indicate whether the transfer itself would be reconsidered.
The students, however, remained resolute, refusing to disperse and instead camping at the education offices as they awaited a firmer response from officials.
