KUCCPS 2026 placement: 202,133 placed for degree programmes out of 270,508 qualified candidates

The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has released placement results for the 2026/2027 placement cycle, with 202,133 students securing places in degree programmes out of the 270,508 candidates who qualified for university admission.

Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba announced the results on Wednesday, saying a total of 293,869 students have been placed in universities, Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions, and other tertiary colleges.

The placements include 202,133 students admitted to degree programmes, 28,246 placed in Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC), 765 students admitted to Kenya Utalii College, 875 placed in Secondary Teacher Training College (TTC) programmes, and 500 students selected for diploma programmes at the Kenya School of Law.

For the first time, KUCCPS has placed students directly into Kenya Utalii College through the national placement exercise.

Ogamba said the 2026/2027 placement cycle has a total capacity of 327,157 vacancies across 43 public and 33 private universities. This is against 270,508 students who attained the minimum university entry grade of C+ and above in the 2025 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination.

In addition to university opportunities, the government made available more than one million training spaces in TVET institutions to accommodate students pursuing technical and vocational education.

The Cabinet Secretary also revealed that 8,915 candidates who qualified for degree programmes opted instead to pursue diploma and other non-degree courses in tertiary institutions.

Candidates who did not apply during the initial KUCCPS application window will have another opportunity to apply for available vacancies once the placement agency announces the reopening of the portal.

Students wishing to change their institutions have also received more time to do so. KUCCPS has extended the inter-institution transfer application period from two weeks to one month, allowing successful applicants to request transfers from one university or college to another.

To check their placement results, applicants are required to log into the KUCCPS student portal using their KCSE index numbers to view the institutions and courses they have been assigned.

According to data from the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC), the 2025 KCSE examination recorded 270,508 candidates attaining the minimum university entry grade of C+, representing a significant increase in the number of students eligible for degree programmes compared to the previous year.
