Defending champions Cheptalal Girls Secondary School emphatically retained the Bomet County girls’ volleyball title after defeating rivals Kaboson Girls Secondary School in straight sets during a replay at Kaplong Boys High School on Saturday.
The convincing 3-0 victory secured Cheptalal a place at the forthcoming Rift Valley Secondary Schools Games and erased any lingering controversy surrounding the county championship.
Cheptalal took control of the contest from the outset, winning the opening set 25-13 before extending their advantage with a 25-16 victory in the second set.
The defending champions completed the sweep in the third set, cruising to a commanding 25-11 victory to underline their dominance.
The clinical display, characterised by disciplined defence, powerful attacks and excellent teamwork, left little doubt about Cheptalal’s status as Bomet County’s top girls’ volleyball team.
Replay settles controversy
The replay followed a dispute arising from the original county final, which was abandoned during the fourth set after crowd disturbances disrupted play.
At the time, Cheptalal were leading the match by two sets to one and had also taken the lead in the fourth set.
Tournament officials initially declared Cheptalal the winners, but Kaboson appealed, arguing that the match had not been completed and that no winner should have been declared under the circumstances.
The appeals committee upheld Kaboson’s case and ordered a replay to determine the rightful county champions.
When the two teams met again, Cheptalal settled the contest convincingly, leaving no room for further controversy.
The victory enables the defending champions to retain their county title and represent Bomet County at the upcoming Rift Valley Secondary Schools Games, where they will seek to continue their impressive form against the region’s best teams.
For Kaboson Girls, the defeat marked the end of a spirited campaign. However, the successful appeal ensured that the championship was ultimately decided on the court.
