A private school in Busia County has brought pride to Kenya after being named among the world’s top 10 most resilient schools, earning international recognition for its outstanding commitment to educating highly vulnerable learners despite significant challenges.

Roshen Lakeview Academy, an independent kindergarten, primary and junior secondary school located in Port Victoria, has been shortlisted as a finalist in the prestigious World’s Best School Prize for Overcoming Adversity.

The honour places the institution among the world’s leading schools that have demonstrated exceptional resilience and innovation in ensuring quality education reaches children facing difficult circumstances.

The recognition was announced by T4 Education, the global education platform behind the World’s Best School Prizes, which were launched in 2022 to identify and celebrate schools making extraordinary contributions to their communities.

The school’s selection is largely attributed to its remarkable efforts to improve access to education for disadvantaged children while addressing the social, economic and geographical barriers that have traditionally prevented many learners from attending school.

Through its inclusive approach, the school has created opportunities for vulnerable children to acquire quality education, empowering them to build brighter futures despite adversity.

Founder of T4 Education and the World’s Best School Prizes, Vikas Pota, praised the shortlisted institutions, noting that they represent the very best of global education at a time when the world is facing unprecedented challenges.

He observed that each shortlisted school, in its own unique way, is preparing young people for a future shaped by uncertainty, conflict, inequality and climate change.

According to Pota, these schools are nurturing the leaders who will be needed to solve tomorrow’s global problems, while demonstrating practical approaches that governments and education systems around the world can learn from.

The World’s Best School Prizes are presented in five categories: Community Collaboration, Environmental Action, Innovation, Overcoming Adversity and Supporting Healthy Lives. Winners are selected by an independent panel of judges based on rigorous evaluation criteria, with the top three finalists and overall winners expected to be announced in November.

Besides competing for the judges’ awards, all shortlisted schools will also participate in the global Community Choice Award, where members of the public from across the world will vote for their favourite school. The recognition provides an opportunity for communities, parents and education stakeholders to celebrate schools making a tangible difference in learners’ lives.

The shortlisted schools will further be invited to participate in the World Schools Summit scheduled for January 2027 in London. The summit will bring together policymakers, education leaders and practitioners from across the globe to exchange ideas, share successful strategies and explore innovative approaches to improving education systems worldwide.
