Mioro Senior School in Mathioya Constituency, Murang’a County, has received a new school bus, ending years of transport challenges that limited learners’ participation in educational tours, academic trips and co-curricular activities.
The acquisition was made possible through the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF) under the leadership of Mathioya MP Edwin Mugo.
The handover ceremony was marked by celebrations as students, parents and members of the local community welcomed the long-awaited addition to the school’s transport fleet.
Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, Dr. Mugo said Mioro Senior School is the first institution in Mathioya to receive a school bus through the NG-CDF since the constituency was established in 1997.
He said the community had consistently appealed for a school bus to improve learners’ mobility and support school programmes.
“I will continue working to ensure the needs of the people of Mathioya are addressed without unnecessary delay because that is the mandate they entrusted to me,” he said.
Dr. Mugo noted that the bus would not only serve Mioro Senior School but also benefit neighbouring schools and the wider community whenever the need arises.
“It is an investment in our learners and a reflection of our unwavering commitment to strengthening education across Mathioya,” he added.
The MP further announced plans to provide three more school buses to institutions within the constituency.
Long-awaited investment
Mioro Senior School was established in the 1990s through the efforts of the late Cabinet Minister JJ Kamotho.
Board of Management Chairperson Susan Karina welcomed the acquisition, describing it as a major milestone for the school.
She recalled previous occasions when learners had missed educational trips because hired buses arrived several hours late.
“We have waited for this bus for many years, and we are grateful that the MP has fulfilled his promise through the NG-CDF,” she said.
