  • Viola Barsulai, the teacher under “Don’t Touch” child protection campaign has been appointed to lead Kamariny Comprehensive School, marking a major milestone in her career.
  • The appointment comes after the retirement of the school’s long-serving head, Oseko whom Barsulai credited his mentorship for shaping her professional journey.

Viola Barsulai, teacher who has been at the forefront of the national “Don’t Touch” child protection campaign has been appointed to lead Kamariny Comprehensive School, marking a major milestone in her career.

Speaking to Education news, the new principal officially confirmed the appointment following what she described as an “overwhelming number of calls, messages, and congratulatory wishes.”

“I wish to officially confirm that I have been appointed as the Principal of Kamariny Primary and Junior School,” she announced.

The appointment comes after the retirement of the school’s long-serving head, Oseko whom Barsulai credited his mentorship for shaping her professional journey.

“This appointment follows the well-deserved retirement of our esteemed Principal, Mr. Oseko, whose mentorship and exemplary leadership have been instrumental in shaping my professional journey,” she said.

Known locally for championing learner safety and dignity through the Don’t Touch campaign, the new principal said she is stepping into the role with gratitude and purpose. She thanked God, colleagues, parents, and the wider Kamariny community for their support.

“I am deeply grateful to God for this opportunity and thankful to everyone who has supported, encouraged, and prayed for me,” she stated. “I look forward to the official handover and to serving our learners, staff, parents, and the entire Kamariny community with humility, integrity, and dedication.”

The teacher drew recognition following her Don’t touch campaign aimed at protecting school going children against sexual abuse. Her contribution led to being crowned the teacher of the year award by TSC in 2023.

Teachers, parents, and education stakeholders in the county have welcomed the appointment, noting that her background in child protection advocacy will be an asset as she takes over leadership at the school.
