A section of parents at St George’s Girls senior school in Nairobi have accused teachers of carrying out what they term as invasive and indecent body searches on students without their consent, sparking outrage and demands for accountability.

The parents claim that some female students were subjected to searches that involved touching intimate parts of their bodies, including their breasts and buttocks, in what they termed a violation of the learners’ constitutional rights and personal dignity.

They further alleged that the searches were conducted without informing or seeking consent from parents or guardians.

Speaking outside the school, the parents condemned the alleged actions, saying schools should protect learners rather than expose them to degrading treatment.

They called on the relevant education authorities to launch an independent investigation and ensure those responsible are held accountable if the allegations are confirmed.

Some parents also expressed concern over reports that students who questioned the searches or raised complaints were intimidated, arguing that learners should be allowed to report grievances without fear of victimisation.

The controversy has renewed debate over the limits of disciplinary measures in schools, with parents insisting that any search of students must respect their dignity, privacy and the protections guaranteed under the Constitution and child protection laws.

Education stakeholders are now urging the Ministry of Education and other relevant agencies to investigate the claims, establish the facts surrounding the incident and take appropriate action while safeguarding the welfare of the affected students.
