- Reigning champions Cheptalal Girls Secondary School have been cleared to compete at the Rift Valley Secondary Schools Games.
- The ruling follows an appeal over a county volleyball match against Kaboson that was disrupted by crowd trouble.
- Cheptalal will now turn its attention to the regional championships in Narok.
Reigning champions Cheptalal Girls Secondary School have been officially cleared to represent their county at the upcoming Rift Valley Secondary Schools Sports Association (RVSSSA) Games in Narok following a ruling on a controversial volleyball match against Kaboson that was marred by crowd trouble.
The much-awaited verdict brings to an end days of uncertainty surrounding the outcome of the match, which was interrupted during the fourth set after chaos erupted at the IAAF Stadium two weeks ago.
Reports indicated that one of the Cheptalal players was allegedly targeted by sections of the crowd, leading to disorder that disrupted the smooth continuation of the game.
Appeals ruling
Sports officials reviewed the circumstances surrounding the incident before reaching a final decision.
Following their deliberations, the relevant authorities ruled in favour of Cheptalal Girls, allowing the reigning champions to proceed to the regional championships.
The decision has been welcomed by sports stakeholders, who argued that crowd interference should not deny a deserving team the opportunity to compete at a higher level.
Many maintained that the principles of fair play required a resolution that protected players from the consequences of disruptions beyond their control.
Eyes on regional honours
Cheptalal Girls will now shift their focus to preparations for the Rift Valley Secondary Schools Games scheduled to be held in Narok from July 6 to 11.
The reigning champions head into the competition with a formidable squad that has dominated opponents throughout the season.
With a blend of experience, talent and championship pedigree, Cheptalal is expected to be among the leading contenders for the regional title.
Their qualification sets the stage for a highly anticipated contest against some of the strongest volleyball teams in the Rift Valley.
