Schools involved in a series of high-profile appeals at the Kakamega county Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) competitions will have to wait longer for a verdict after the county jury postponed its sittings due to the annual Kenya Secondary School Heads Association (KESSHA) conference in Mombasa.

The appeals, which have generated widespread interest among football stakeholders across the county, were expected to be heard earlier.

However, the absence of principals attending the national conference made it impossible for the jury to convene and deliberate on the cases.

The disputes involve some of Kakamega County’s football giants, including Butere Boys, Musingu Boys, Green Commandos, Shamberere Boys, Archbishop Njenga Girls and Mwira Girls.

Most of the appeals center on allegations of overage players and irregular player transfers.

Among the pending cases, Shamberere Boys appealed against Butere Boys over claims of fielding overage players.

Green Commandos also lodged appeals against Musingu Boys and Butere Boys on similar allegations.

In return, Musingu Boys and Butere Boys challenged Green Commandos over claims of overage players and late transfers.

In the girls’ category, Archbishop Njenga Girls appealed against Mwira Girls over alleged player eligibility concerns.

The postponement has prolonged anxiety among schools, players and supporters, with many eager to know whether the outcomes of several matches could be altered.

The jury’s decisions are expected to have significant implications, including possible disqualifications, forfeiture of results and changes to qualification slots for higher levels of competition.

With the KESSHA conference now concluded, the county jury is expected to reconvene and begin reviewing the evidence presented by the respective schools.

Sports officials have emphasized that every appeal will be handled in accordance with KSSSA regulations to ensure fairness and integrity in school competitions.
