Secretary General Abdi Hajji said many schools expected to offer Grade 10 pathways are yet to start technical subjects due to a shortage of qualified teachers.
The Kenya Secondary School Heads Association (KESSHA) has called on the government to recruit graduates from Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions to teach technical subjects in senior schools.
Speaking during the 49th KESSHA National Conference in Mombasa, Secretary General Abdi Hajji said many schools expected to offer Grade 10 pathways are yet to start technical subjects due to a shortage of qualified teachers.
Hajji noted that TVET graduates possess the practical skills needed to support the implementation of technical and vocational courses under the Competency-Based Education (CBE).
School heads warned that without urgent recruitment and deployment of teachers, the rollout of senior school pathways could face significant challenges.
They also called for increased investment in infrastructure, workshops, laboratories, and learning equipment to support the new curriculum.
The appeal comes as the education sector intensifies preparations for the transition to senior school under CBE.
