St Patrick’s Iten dominates Elgeyo Marakwet games, shifts focus to Rift Valley title

St Patrick’s Iten High School delivered an outstanding performance at the Elgeyo Marakwet County Secondary School Term Two Games held at Kerio Valley Secondary School, emerging as one of the county’s top performers across multiple disciplines.

The school showcased its sporting prowess by clinching titles in volleyball, basketball and rugby sevens while also recording impressive achievements in individual racket sports.

In volleyball, St Patrick’s, who were runners-up at last year’s Rift Valley Regional Championships, lived up to expectations by defeating Jemunada Secondary School 3-0 in the final to retain county supremacy.

The school’s basketball team also impressed, comfortably beating Simotwo Boys High School 21-7 to secure the county title.

In rugby sevens, St Patrick’s continued their dominance with a convincing 26-13 victory over Simotwo Boys High School in the final.

Beyond team sports, the school excelled in individual competitions.

St Patrick’s presented five table tennis players to the county championships, and all five successfully qualified for the upcoming regional games.

In lawn tennis, the school fielded four players, with two earning qualification slots for the regional competition.

Focus shifts to regional games

With the county games now concluded, St Patrick’s has shifted its focus to the Rift Valley Regional Secondary School Games scheduled to be held in Narok County from July 6 to July 13.

Head of Games Terwes Kiplangat praised the players for their commitment and discipline throughout the competition.

“Our students demonstrated great determination, teamwork and sportsmanship. Winning county titles in volleyball, basketball and rugby sevens is a reflection of the hard work put in by both players and coaches. We are proud of their achievements and confident they can compete strongly at the regional level,” said Kiplangat.

He also commended the school’s administration, led by Chief Principal Peter Rotich, for providing unwavering support to the sports department.

“We sincerely appreciate the support and encouragement from our administration under Chief Principal Peter Rotich. Their investment in sports has created an environment where talent can flourish. We are now focused on preparing adequately for the Rift Valley Championships and aim to represent Elgeyo Marakwet County with distinction,” he added.
