A trip to a regional music festival ended in tragedy for dozens of learners after a school bus carrying students from two schools crashed along the Eldama Ravine-Nakuru highway early today.
According to the reports, the accident occurred near Kibasiso, close to Taidys Hotel, at about 9:20 a.m., leaving 59 students injured.
Eldama Ravine Sub-County Police Commander Benard Indeke said the bus, belonging to Pineview Academy Kiplogon, was carrying students from Pineview Academy and Benonin Primary School to Mogotio when the driver reportedly lost control.
“Our preliminary assessment indicates that the bus suffered brake failure before veering off the road. Investigations are ongoing,” said Indeke.
The vehicle was transporting 30 students from Pineview Academy and 29 from Benonin Primary School.
Despite the severity of the crash, all the learners survived.

“We did not record any fatalities. The students sustained injuries but are in stable condition and receiving treatment at various hospitals within the sub-county,” Indeke said.
The injured were taken to Eldama Ravine Sub-County Referral Hospital, Mercy Hospital, Ravine Specialist Hospital and Eldama Ravine Nursing Home.
Police officers cordoned off the area as investigations continued, while arrangements were made to remove the wreckage.
“The vehicle will be towed to Eldama Ravine Police Station once a breakdown vehicle arrives. Mechanical inspection will form part of the investigations,” Indeke added.
The accident has intensified calls for stricter adherence to road safety regulations, with parents and education stakeholders urging school administrations to ensure buses undergo thorough mechanical checks before transporting learners.
“Children’s safety must come first. School buses should be inspected regularly to prevent avoidable accidents,” said a concerned parent at the scene.
