A fire damaged a girls’ dormitory at Mananja Mixed Day and Boarding Secondary School in Masinga Sub-county, Machakos County, on Monday night while students were in evening preps, with no injuries reported.

The blaze destroyed six beds and a mattress store, and authorities have launched investigations into its cause as affected students were safely accommodated for the night.
A girls’ dormitory at Mananja Mixed Day and Boarding Secondary School in Masinga Sub-county, Machakos County, was on Monday night damaged by fire whose cause is yet to be established.
Confirming the incident, area Chief Charles Nthenge said the fire broke out while students were attending evening preps, averting what could have been a major tragedy.
“The students were in class for preps when the fire started, and no one was injured,” he said.
The blaze destroyed six beds and a mattress store before being contained, according to the chief.
Authorities said investigations have been launched to determine the cause of the fire.

Following the incident, school management and local administrators moved swiftly to ensure all affected students were safely accommodated for the night.
“Through the combined efforts of the school management and local administration, all the affected students were provided with a place to sleep,” Chief Nthenge added.
The incident adds to growing concern over a series of school fires reported in various parts of the country in recent months.
