Former students, education stakeholders and well-wishers are set to gather at Orero National School on July 10, 2026, to celebrate the retirement and outstanding legacy of former Chief Principal Dickens O. Bula.
The event, organized by the Oriwo Alumni Network, will bring together alumni, friends, teachers and members of the education fraternity to recognize a leader whose influence has shaped generations of learners and transformed institutions through visionary leadership and dedication to academic excellence.
Bula retired from public service after a distinguished career in education, during which he earned widespread recognition for his commitment to discipline, mentorship and holistic student development.
Throughout his tenure at Orero National School and previously at Oriwo Boys High School, he was credited with improving academic standards, strengthening school systems and nurturing thousands of students who have gone on to excel in various professions.
According to the organizers, the celebration will be held under the theme, “Honouring a Remarkable Journey of Service and Impact,” reflecting the enduring legacy Bula leaves behind in Kenya’s education sector.
The ceremony is expected to feature tributes, goodwill messages and recognition from former students, education leaders, and colleagues who worked closely with the veteran educator.
The retirement celebration, which was recently rescheduled to July 10 to allow broader participation, will commence at 9:00 a.m. at Orero National School.
Organizers say the move was intended to ensure that more alumni, parents, teachers and friends have an opportunity to honour one of the region’s most respected education leaders.
Many former students describe Bula as a mentor and role model whose firm but supportive leadership inspired academic excellence and personal growth.
Education stakeholders have also praised him for building strong institutions, mentoring young teachers and fostering a culture of discipline and achievement.
As preparations gather momentum, expectations are high that the event will attract hundreds of participants from across the country, all united by a desire to celebrate a man whose service and leadership have left an indelible mark on Kenya’s education landscape.
The gathering will not only mark the end of an illustrious career but also celebrate a legacy that continues to inspire learners, educators and leaders long after Bula’s retirement.
