The government has allocated KSh 30.7 billion for Junior Secondary School (JSS) capitation and KSh 8.2 billion for intern teachers in the 2026/27 Budget as part of efforts to strengthen the implementation of Competency-Based Education (CBE).
Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi announced the allocations while presenting the FY 2026/27 Budget Statement in Parliament on Thursday, June 11, 2026.
The JSS funding comes as the government continues to expand infrastructure and teacher deployment to support the rapidly growing level of education created under the Competency-Based Curriculum.
Treasury said the allocation would help sustain teaching and learning in Junior Secondary Schools while supporting learner transition and retention.
The funding follows substantial investments made in CBC implementation over the last three years, including construction of more than 23,000 classrooms and commencement of 1,600 laboratories across the country.
