Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti has expressed her condolences to the family of three university students who were lynched by a mob in Machakos Town following what authorities have described as a false alarm.
The three students reportedly lost their lives after an unidentified man allegedly raised an alarm while attempting to evade responsibility for a road accident, prompting an angry crowd to attack the victims.
Speaking during a development inspection tour of Machakos Central Ward on Wednesday, Governor Wavinya condemned the incident and urged members of the public to refrain from taking the law into their own hands.
The Governor, who toured several ongoing projects including Kusyomuomo Hospital, cabro paving works at St. Mary’s Primary School, drainage and parking works at T. Tot, and the Machakos Main Market, said she was deeply saddened by the tragic loss of the young men.
“I am saddened by the loss of three young men who were lynched here in Machakos. I appeal to members of the public to desist from mob justice and instead hand over suspects to the police for investigation and due legal process,” she said while addressing residents at Machakos Market.
Wavinya later visited the bereaved family, where she conveyed her sympathies and pledged support towards the burial arrangements of the deceased, who were cousins.

The killings sparked tension in Machakos Town, with students from Machakos University threatening to stage demonstrations in protest over the incident. The situation, however, was contained after police assured the students that suspects linked to the killings had been arrested and investigations were underway.
The Governor reiterated the need for citizens to uphold the rule of law, warning that mob justice often results in the loss of innocent lives and undermines the justice system.
The tragic incident has renewed calls for public awareness on lawful conflict resolution and the importance of allowing security agencies to handle criminal investigations.
