Residents of Ololmasani Ward in Emurua Dikirr Constituency, Narok County, are celebrating a major education milestone following the announcement of the establishment of Johana Ngeno University College at Simotwet Secondary School.

The announcement was made during a high-level meeting in Narok attended by Governor Patrick Ole Ntutu, Emurua Dikirr MP David Keter Dollarline, and Maasai Mara University Vice Chancellor Prof. Peninah Aloo-Obudho.

Constituent college of Maasai Mara University

According to the leaders, the proposed institution will operate as a constituent college of Maasai Mara University, with the aim of expanding access to higher education for students from Narok County and neighbouring regions.

The project is expected to address long-standing challenges associated with distance, the cost of education, and limited university infrastructure in rural areas.

Honouring Johana Ngeno

Leaders also confirmed that the institution will be named Johana Ngeno University College in honour of the late Johana Ngeno, who served as the pioneer Member of Parliament for Emurua Dikirr Constituency.

Ngeno is remembered for his contribution to political leadership in the region before his untimely death in a helicopter crash at Chepkiep Village in Nandi County on February 28.

Officials and local leaders said the decision to name the institution after him is a symbolic recognition of his contribution to public service and leadership development in the area.

Economic and educational impact

The institution is expected to stimulate local economic growth through job creation, increased business activity, and infrastructure development within Ololmasani Ward and surrounding communities.

Residents have widely welcomed the announcement, describing it as a transformative development that will improve access to higher education and create opportunities for future generations.
