The University of Nairobi (UoN) has ushered in a new chapter in its leadership following the appointment of Eng. Prof. Ayub Njoroge Gitau as the institution’s 9th Vice-Chancellor.

In a statement released after a special sitting held on Thursday, May 14, 2026, the University Council announced a series of key appointments aimed at strengthening governance, academic excellence, and institutional development at Kenya’s premier university.

Prof. Gitau, a distinguished academic and engineering scholar, will now take over the helm of the university at a time when higher education institutions across the country are navigating challenges related to funding, research competitiveness, technological transformation, and expanding student needs.

The Council also appointed Prof. Josiah Omollo Aduda as Deputy Vice-Chancellor in charge of Finance, Planning and Development, a role expected to play a critical part in steering the university’s financial sustainability and strategic growth agenda.
