Leaders, teachers, and hundreds of mourners gathered at Kiramwok Secondary School on Friday to pay tribute to the late Chepkitwal Secondary School Principal Wilson Chirchir, whose death has shocked the education fraternity in Bomet County.
The late principal was later laid to rest at his Kiramwok home in Bomet East Sub-county during an emotional ceremony attended by political leaders, education stakeholders, students, and residents.
Among the leaders present were former Bomet Governor Isaac Rutto, former Bomet Woman Representative Beatrice Kones, and Bomet Senate aspirant Chepkirui Kones. Officials from the Kenya Secondary School Heads Association also joined the mourners in honouring the fallen principal.
The Bomet branch of the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers was led by Executive Secretary Paul Kimeto, who described Chirchir as a transformational leader whose impact at Chepkitwal Secondary School was evident despite serving for only two years.
Kimeto said the late principal had introduced discipline, strengthened administration, and inspired improved academic performance at the institution.
“He was a dedicated educationist who believed in hard work, accountability, and teamwork. His leadership changed the direction of the school and inspired both teachers and learners,” said Kimeto.
Leaders who spoke during the burial praised Chirchir for his calm leadership and commitment to uplifting education standards in the region, noting that his death was a major setback to the county’s education sector.
Teachers and students emotionally recalled him as a strict but caring administrator who encouraged discipline while remaining approachable to learners and staff.

During the ceremony, calls were also made to the Teachers Service Commission and the Social Health Authority to ensure the timely processing of benefits for teachers’ families after death, with education officials saying delayed support often leaves families struggling during difficult moments.
Mourners described the late principal as a man who devoted his life to nurturing young people and strengthening schools, leaving behind a legacy of discipline, service, and academic excellence.
