Students across Lamu County are set to benefit from faster bursary and scholarship disbursements following the enactment of the Lamu County Bursary (Amendment) Act, 2026, a milestone achieved through close collaboration between the County Executive and the County Assembly.
Governor Issa Timamy signed the amended law recently, unlocking the release of funds to learners across the county. The legislation addresses compliance requirements raised by the Controller of Budget, removing bottlenecks that had previously delayed the issuance of bursaries and scholarships to eligible students.
The amendment was developed through coordination between the Department of Education and Members of the County Assembly (MCAs), reflecting a unified effort to streamline bursary and scholarship management in the county. County officials have confirmed that the disbursement process will commence shortly.
