Kisii National Polytechnic has been formally registered as a Qualification Awarding Body (QAB) within Kenya’s technical and vocational education and training sector; recognition announced during the institution’s 6th graduation ceremony that saw more than 4,213 students conferred with various qualifications.

The Kenya National Qualifications Authority (KNQA) conferred the status on the polytechnic after it met all prescribed requirements for registration. The announcement was made in the presence of Education Cabinet Secretary (CS) Julius Ogamba, who presided over the ceremony.

KNQA Director General and CEO Dr. Alice Kande and Council Chair Stanley Kiptis attended the graduation and handed over the QAB recognition to the institution. The authority said the registration reinforces the polytechnic’s role in producing a skilled workforce aligned with Kenya’s industrial growth and economic transformation agenda.

Registration as a QAB requires an institution to demonstrate a legal mandate, a sound governance structure and functional quality enhancement mechanisms.

Registered institutions are also required to upload learner records onto the National Qualifications Database (NQD).

KNQA said it remains committed to safeguarding the quality and integrity of national qualifications by ensuring all accredited institutions are listed on the NQD. The authority has previously urged institutions yet to register to accelerate their compliance.
