The Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) Kilifi Branch has formally notified police of a planned peaceful demonstration scheduled for April 27, 2026, in Kilifi County.
In a letter dated April 24, 2026, addressed to the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) at Kilifi Police Station, the union stated that it will mobilise teachers to demand urgent intervention from the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) over key issues affecting educators.
Among the concerns raised are challenges associated with the Social Health Authority (SHA) medical scheme, calls for full autonomy of junior secondary schools, and the need to confirm intern teachers to permanent and pensionable terms.
The union also cited delays and concerns surrounding payments by the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC).
According to the notice, participants will assemble at the KUPPET offices at 10:00 a.m. before proceeding peacefully along a designated route to the Ministry of Education and TSC offices within Kilifi.
KUPPET emphasised that the demonstration will be conducted peacefully and in accordance with the Constitution and laws of Kenya.
The union further appealed for police support to ensure security and effective traffic management during the procession.
