The Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) Murang’a branch has called for a press address set for Friday, April 24, 2026 at Ngeka Centre to publicly confront several unresolved issues affecting teachers and the broader education sector.
Led by Executive Secretary Thomas Kimani, the branch says the media briefing will be used to restate teachers’ demands on matters that have remained outstanding despite repeated engagements with relevant authorities.
At the centre of the discussions will be the delayed payment of Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) allowances owed to examination personnel, including invigilators, supervisors, examiners, centre managers, and deputy centre managers who facilitated national examinations.
The union is also expected to raise concerns over challenges surrounding the Social Health Authority (SHA) medical cover; particularly issues of capitation and accreditation which it says have hindered effective access to healthcare services for teachers.
Another key agenda item will be the push for the autonomy of Junior Secondary Schools (JS), with KUPPET arguing that clear administrative independence is necessary to strengthen management and improve learning outcomes.

The branch will further renew its call for the confirmation of Junior School intern teachers into permanent and pensionable employment terms.
The union maintains that the continued service of approximately 44,000 interns without confirmation raises concerns of job security and fairness in the teaching profession.
KUPPET Murang’a says the address is part of its continued advocacy for teacher welfare, accountability, and timely resolution of issues affecting education delivery.
The briefing is expected to set the tone for renewed pressure on education stakeholders as unions intensify calls for reforms in staffing, remuneration, and health coverage for teachers.
