Mary Rotich, the Kericho KUPPET Branch Executive Secretary, emerged victorious in the race for National Assistant Treasurer during the Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers national elections held at the Kasarani Indoor Arena.
Rotich garnered an impressive 1,367 votes to defeat Lynette Kamadi, the Mombasa Branch Executive Secretary, who secured 644 votes. Her decisive win reflected strong support from delegates across the country, positioning her as a key figure in the union’s national leadership.

In another closely watched contest, Juliet Kimotho was elected as the National Gender Secretary, unseating incumbent Catherine Wambilianga, who also serves as Bungoma Woman Representative. Juliet got 1119 votes against Wambilianga’s 311 votes. Kimotho’s election signals a new chapter in the union’s gender leadership docket.
Sammy Chelanga clinched the National Tertiary representative position after defeating Peris Kimutai, further strengthening the representation of tertiary institution members within the union’s top leadership.
Edward Obwocha won the National Secondary Schools Secretary post, overcoming Hellen Gathoni in a competitive race that attracted significant attention from secondary school delegates.
Julius Korir retained his Vice Chairperson position after beating Hassan Aden.
Those unopposed are Secretary General Akello Misori, his Deputy Moses Nthurima, National Treasurer Mwethi Njenga and Organising Secretary Paul Maingi.

At the helm of the union, Jeremia Omboko Milemba retained his seat as National Chairman after defeating Christine Agutu, a teacher at Lamu Girls High School.

Milemba’s re-election ensures continuity in leadership as the union continues to address key issues affecting post-primary educators across the country.
The elections were marked by high voter turnout and a vibrant democratic process, with delegates expressing optimism that the new leadership team will advance teachers’ welfare, professional growth, and unity within the union.
