Two arrested in Githunguri over abduction and murder of 9-year-old boy

Detectives have arrested two suspects linked to the abduction and killing of a Nine-year-old boy in Kajai village, Githunguri, in a case that has left residents in shock.

The suspects, identified as James Ngigi Ngendo, 32, and James Mburi Chichu, 75, were apprehended following investigations launched after the child was reported missing.

The two were presented before a court, which granted investigators 10 days to detain them as inquiries continue.

According to preliminary findings, the child’s mother had travelled to Kipipiri for a family event, leaving her son at home under the care of his grandmother and sibling.

Moments after she left, the grandmother allegedly received a phone call from a man claiming to have kidnapped the boy and demanding a ransom of Sh 150,000.

The matter was promptly reported to authorities, triggering a manhunt led by officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations.

Detectives tracked down the first suspect in the Gitothua area of Ruiru Sub-County.

During interrogation, he reportedly led officers to the second suspect in Kigio, Githunguri Sub-County, where he was also arrested.

Even as the arrests were made, the search for the missing child intensified.

Acting on information obtained from the suspects, investigators combed through premises previously occupied by one of them.

Tragically, the boy’s body was later discovered concealed inside a manila sack and hidden beneath clothes on a rooftop.

Crime scene experts documented the area before the body was transferred to Mukoe Funeral Home pending a postmortem examination.

Authorities have reaffirmed their resolve to ensure justice is served, particularly in crimes involving children.

Investigations are ongoing as detectives seek to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

The tragic killing has sparked grief and outrage among residents, with many calling for swift justice and enhanced measures to protect children in the community.
