Four Makueni Boys’ students qualify for East Africa debating championship

Four learners from Makueni Boys High School have qualified for the East Africa Amani Club National Debating for Peace Championship after an impressive performance at this year’s national contest held at Machakos School, where they ranked 4th out of 287 teams from 26 counties.

The lead patron and county coordinator, Fridah Mutuku, called on schools to actively enroll and participate in Amani Clubs, noting that the initiative plays a key role in promoting peace, building students’ confidence, and enhancing peaceful coexistence.

She congratulated the learners for their dedication and for raising the school’s profile through their strong performance, adding that she deeply appreciated the support of assistant patron Mr. Musa, who has consistently worked with the team throughout their preparations.

This year’s championship, themed “Dialogue Over Division: Youth Voices for a Peaceful Kenya,” saw Makueni Boys’ peace custodians present eight teams in the English category.

The coordinator noted that there was significant improvement in participation this year, with many more schools taking part in the competition.

The students who qualified include Michael Musyimi, the team’s researcher and a Grade 10 learner, Benjamin Kathuku, Aloysius Bulambo, and Dwayne Kabira.

She further attributed the team’s success to the support from Chief Principal Francis Mutua, the County Director of Education, and other stakeholders who played a key role in their preparation and participation.
