Teachers at Tana River Junior Secondary School (JSS) in Tana River county have announced plans to down their tools on April 27, 2026, citing unresolved grievances and what they describe as persistent neglect by education authorities.
In a strongly worded statement circulating ahead of a scheduled press conference, the educators say they have remained patient and loyal despite mounting frustrations over the delayed confirmation of their employment.
Many argue that the prolonged uncertainty surrounding their status has left them demoralised and financially strained, even as they continue to shoulder full teaching responsibilities under the Junior Secondary School programme.

The teachers also raise concerns about inadequate facilitation, particularly in science subjects, saying that the lack of proper support and resources has made it difficult to deliver the curriculum effectively.
They further point to unclear career progression pathways and unfulfilled promises, which they say have eroded trust and goodwill among staff.

Intern teachers have joined the chorus of discontent, insisting they are tired of what they term as misuse and sidelining.
Anchored on the theme “Our Service. Our Rights. Our Future,” the teachers maintain that unless concrete steps are taken to address their concerns, they will not resume duty after the stated deadline.

A press conference has been slated for April 14, 2026, at Minjila at 10:30am, where the teachers are expected to formally present their demands and outline their next course of action.
The looming strike now threatens to disrupt learning in the county, placing pressure on relevant authorities to intervene swiftly and find an amicable solution before the situation escalates further.
