West Pokot County is mourning the death of veteran educationist and community leader Francis Kaspan Kanyagareng, who was laid to rest on Tuesday, March 7, 2026, at Kiwanja Ndege, Nangrotum in Kapenguria.
Kanyagareng, a respected figure in education circles, dedicated much of his life to the growth and development of learning institutions in the region.
He began his early education between 1956 and 1960 before later serving as an Agricultural Extension Officer in West Pokot County. His role not only placed him at the heart of community development but also deepened his involvement in education both as a professional and a parent.
Kanyagareng played a pivotal role in the establishment and management of several schools. He was the founding Board Chair of Kamito Boys Secondary School, served as a board committee member at Tartar Secondary School, and was the Board Chair of Tartar Primary School.

Beyond education, he was actively involved in community initiatives. He was a coffee farmer, conservationist, and environmentalist, and counted among the founder members of the Pokot Council of Elders. He also helped establish the Senior Citizens Retirees group.
He was eulogised as a devout Catholic and a committed member of the Catholic Men Association, known for his strong faith and dedication to service.
His legacy in education and community leadership continues to inspire many in West Pokot County.
