A spirited community effort is underway to rescue Ndalelai primary school in Embomos ward of Konoin sub county , Bomet county after enrollment plummeted to just 75 pupils, despite the school’s capacity to host more than 800 learners.
The situation has sparked concern among local leaders and residents, who now fear that the institution risks stagnation if urgent measures are not taken to reverse the trend.
Former Konoin MP Julius Kones, who spearheaded the establishment of the school during his tenure, returned to the institution to mobilize support froJm parents and the wider community.
He described the low enrollment as a wake-up call and challenged families in Ndalelai and surrounding areas to take advantage of the modern infrastructure already in place.
Dr. Kones emphasized that significant resources were invested in constructing state-of-the-art classrooms to expand access to quality education locally.

However, he noted that infrastructure alone cannot sustain a school without active community participation.
In a renewed push to attract learners, residents, in partnership with local leaders, launched a school feeding programme aimed at boosting enrollment and improving attendance.
The initiative is expected to ease the burden on vulnerable families while encouraging parents to enroll their children at the institution.
As part of his contribution, Dr. Kones donated textbooks and a 10,000-litre water tank to enhance water harvesting and ensure a reliable water supply for the school.
The community members also contributed foodstuffs including maize, beans, and sugar, as well as cooking utensils to support the programme from next term.
Embomos Ward MCA Japheth Cheruiyot, popularly known as Marangi, was among leaders present at the event and pledged continued support to revive the school’s fortunes.
With the feeding programme set to begin, stakeholders now hope the renewed community spirit will breathe life back into Ndalelai Primary and restore it to its intended role as a center of learning for hundreds of children in Embomos Ward.
