Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa on Tuesday presided over the Annual General Meeting and prize-giving ceremony at Ihonje Comprehensive School in Etenje Ward, Mumias West Sub-County, where he announced new education investments and praised the school’s academic performance.
Barasa pledged that his administration will construct a modern Early Childhood Development and Education (ECDE) centre at the school in the 2026/2027 financial year.
He also announced plans to solarise the school’s water systems to ensure reliable access to clean water for learners.
The governor assured residents that ward-based bursaries will be issued to support students as schools reopen, reaffirming the county government’s commitment to easing the cost of education.

He noted that over 60 ECDE projects are currently being implemented across Kakamega County, with the majority already complete and in use.
The governor was accompanied by area Member of County Assembly (MCA) Eddie Obwaka, Chief Officer for Service Delivery Phitalis Masakhwe, and other county officials.
