The M-PESA Foundation has launched a Ksh75 million project to rebuild Mapera Primary School in Ndalu, Tongaren Sub-County, Bungoma County, with the goal of improving access to quality education.
The project, revealed during a groundbreaking ceremony attended by Foundation Trustee Michael Joseph, will replace the school’s old, outdated infrastructure with modern educational facilities.
Speaking at the event, Bungoma County Governor Kenneth Lusaka highlighted that the investment would significantly improve the learning environment by providing modern classrooms, laboratories, and an ICT hub.
The project will also include Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) facilities, upgraded sanitation, clean water systems, and a fully-equipped kitchen.
“This project goes beyond infrastructure, it brings hope, dignity, and a brighter future for the children of Tongaren,” said Governor Lusaka.
Lusaka praised the foundation for its ongoing commitment to education and community development in the county, emphasizing that such partnerships are essential for improving lives and fostering growth.

Michael Joseph explained that Mapera Primary School was chosen due to the pressing need to enhance educational conditions in the area.
He reiterated the foundation’s dedication to improving academic outcomes by building an ICT hub, providing well-equipped laboratories, and supporting digital literacy.
As part of the environmental aspect of the project, 1,000 trees will be planted within the school compound to promote sustainability.
Joseph further noted that the M-Pesa Foundation has already made a substantial impact on many schools and intends to invest in 100 more schools this year.
“In addition to supporting TVET teachers, we also provide scholarships to high school students in 500 schools annually. We are committed to making a positive impact in the community, and I encourage all education stakeholders to take full advantage of these facilities to continue transforming the community through quality education,” he said.
He also emphasized the importance of collaboration between the government, the private sector, and the local community to ensure the successful implementation of development projects.
