Orero High School in Homa Bay County has turned the spotlight on the legacy of its outgoing principal, Dickens Bula, whose tenure is widely credited with transforming the institution into a center of academic excellence and holistic development.
Even as the school prepares for its Annual General Meeting (AGM) scheduled for April 1, 2026, the administration has maintained that the event will remain a formal engagement forum.
However, a special session has been set aside to recognize Bula’s outstanding contribution, reflecting the deep respect he commands among students, parents, alumni, and the wider community.
Bula leaves behind a record defined by steady academic improvement, with Orero High consistently posting stronger results in national examinations during his tenure. Education stakeholders attribute this progress to his firm emphasis on discipline, structured learning, and a results-driven culture that motivated both teachers and learners.
Beyond academics, the principal is credited with expanding co-curricular programs, enabling students to excel in sports, clubs, and other talent-based activities. The approach not only enhanced student engagement but also positioned the school as a competitive institution in regional and national platforms.

His leadership also saw notable improvements in infrastructure, with the development and upgrading of key learning facilities aimed at creating a more conducive academic environment. These changes, stakeholders note, have had a lasting impact on both teaching standards and student performance.
Colleagues describe Bula as a firm but approachable administrator who fostered unity within the school community. His inclusive leadership style strengthened collaboration between the administration, teaching staff, parents, and alumni, helping to build a strong support system around the institution.
The wider Orero and Oriwo communities have also acknowledged his influence beyond the school, citing his role in promoting education and community engagement initiatives that elevated the school’s standing in the region.
An outpouring of tributes in recent weeks underscores the impact of his leadership, with many calling for a befitting send-off. In response, the school has confirmed plans for a separate farewell ceremony expected later in May or June, where stakeholders will have an opportunity to formally celebrate his achievements.
As Orero High School enters a transition phase, Bula’s legacy is expected to endure through the systems, culture, and standards he established—hallmarks that continue to shape the institution’s future direction.
