Bomet teachers confident ahead of 2026 games in Malindi

Bomet County teachers are upbeat and well-prepared as they gear up for the 2026 national games organized by the Kenya National Teachers Sports Association (KNTSA).

The annual tournament will be held at Malindi High School from April 13 to April 17, bringing together teacher-athletes from across the country.

According to Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) Bomet Branch Secretary Secondary Nicodemus Ngeno, the county will be represented by a 26-man squad that has been training consistently at Chepkosiom Grounds in Sotik Sub-county. The team has also arranged several friendly matches as part of its build-up to the competition.

“Our preparations have been smooth and the players are in good shape. The technical bench is satisfied with the progress so far,” said Ngeno.

Bomet has been placed in Group C alongside Lamu, Kitui, and Nyandarua. While acknowledging the competitiveness of the group, Ngeno expressed confidence in the team’s ability to perform well and make a strong impression on the national stage.

The county is seeking to improve on last year’s performance during the previous edition held in Machakos, where Bomet reached the quarter-finals before being eliminated by eventual champions Bungoma. The experience, Ngeno said, helped the team identify areas of improvement and build greater cohesion.

He noted that although the union is offering support, the team will also seek assistance from well-wishers to meet part of the costs.

Ngeno explained that the KNTSA tournament is an initiative started by teachers and is not factored into the government calendar, meaning participating teams must cater for their own upkeep, including accommodation and other logistical expenses.

“We appeal to stakeholders and friends of education to support us where possible. This is a teachers’ initiative meant to nurture talent and promote unity, but it requires collective effort to sustain,” he added.

He further assured that the union is coordinating logistical arrangements to ensure the team travels and competes comfortably.

The KNTSA Games provide teachers with a platform to nurture talent, promote unity and strengthen networks beyond the classroom.

For Bomet, the Malindi tournament presents another opportunity to showcase discipline, teamwork and sporting excellence.

With steady preparations and high morale in camp, Bomet teachers are heading to the Coast ready to compete and represent the county with pride.
