Former Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Secretary General, Wilson Sossion, has suggested he may return to union leadership, revealing that current Secretary General Collins Oyuu is reportedly worried about his potential comeback.
Speaking on a local radio station, Sossion emphasized the mentorship role he played in shaping Oyuu’s career.
“He is worried about me going back to KNUT. I mentored him and helped guide his journey in the union,” Sossion said.
He described his relationship with Oyuu as one built on experience, guidance, and a shared commitment to teachers’ welfare.
Although he is out of the union, Sossion said many teachers feel he still has the energy and drive necessary to serve the union effectively.
“Teachers think I should return because I still have the energy to do this work. I remain passionate about championing the rights and welfare of our teachers,” he stated.
Sossion also clarified that he is fully eligible to contest for leadership positions within KNUT, noting that he continues to pay his union dues.

“I am eligible to contest, I am paying my KNUT dues, and I am capable of running the affairs of the union. I am ready to serve the teachers once again,” he emphasized.
During his tenure as KNUT Secretary General, Sossion was widely recognized for his strong advocacy for teachers’ salaries, benefits and working conditions.
His leadership style combined activism with strategic negotiation, earning him widespread respect among educators across the country.
Many view him as a transformative figure who brought renewed energy and visibility to the union.
Sossion’s comments are expected to ignite discussions among teachers and union stakeholders, particularly as the KNUT elections approach in April.
Analysts say his potential return could reshape the leadership dynamics within the union, drawing attention to his experience, mentorship and enduring popularity among members.
