Fesbeth Academy, Vihiga High shine as Western Region Drama Festival 2026 concludes at Chakol

The 2026 Kenya Schools and Colleges Drama Festival for Western Region reached a colourful climax at St. Monica Chakol Girls Senior School in Busia County, with Fesbeth Academy and Vihiga High School emerging as standout performers in the senior school categories.

Fesbeth Academy clinched the top spot in the play category, narrowly edging out Vihiga High School, while Bunyore Girls High School secured third place after a spirited performance. The showcase drew enthusiastic audiences and highlighted the depth of talent across the region.

In the Cultural Creative Dance (CCD) category, Kivaywa Boys High School dominated with a powerful display, followed by St. Clare’s Maragoli and GASK in second and third positions, respectively. The choral verse category saw Senende Boys take top honours, ahead of Bungoma High School and Butere Girls High School.

Chesamisi Boys High School impressed adjudicators in the narrative category, emerging winners, with Koyonzo Boys and Vihiga Boys claiming second and third places. Meanwhile, St. Peter’s Busibi led in the live broadcast category, beating Archbishop Njenga and Emusire Boys.

St. Clare’s Maragoli extended their strong run in performance arts by winning the modern dance category, while St. Mary’s Kibabii and St. Peter’s Mumias finished second and third. In solo dance, St. Peter’s Mumias carried the day, followed by St. Peter’s Makunda and Budalangi Boys.

Comedy also had its moment, with Ebusia emerging top in stand-up comedy, ahead of Inaya and Bokoli. Vihiga Boys secured victory in the solo verse category, with Fesbeth Academy and Butere Girls High School finishing second and third.

Butere Girls High School continued their impressive streak by winning the mime category, ahead of St. Paul’s Amukura and Eshibinga. In the spoken word, Bunyore Girls High School took top honours, followed by Butere Girls and St. Peter’s Mumias.

Inclusivity was also celebrated, with St. Brigid Akoret winning the Kenya Sign Language (KSL) play category, while St. Angela Mumias finished second. Nalondo CBM topped the Special Needs Education (SNE) CCD category, followed by St. Brigid Akoret and St. Clare’s Ebukuya.

The festival brought together leading schools from across the Western Region, blending creativity, cultural expression, and artistic excellence. Organizers hailed the event as a resounding success. Winners will now proceed to the national stage to compete against the best schools from across the country.
