A retired school principal from Kisii County has urged teachers to lead exemplary lives by shunning vices like excessive drinking that might tarnish their reputation and influence students negatively.
Speaking at his Borabu Settlement Scheme home in Nyamira County, Timothy Nyarera encouraged teachers to remain impactful even in retirement, expressing pride in his former students.
He reiterated that embracing Christian values and healthy eating habits is key to a fulfilling life.
Nyarera, who is now a thriving farmer, engages in dairy, poultry, and tea farming, inspiring others with his entrepreneurial spirit.

He emphasized that agriculture is the backbone of the country, urging youth to take courses related to farming to enhance food security amid the country’s expanding population.
“With Kenya’s population projected to hit 70 million by 2030, ensuring food security is critical. By focusing on agriculture, youth can contribute to the country’s economic growth, improve health outcomes, and support national stability.” He said
The retired but not tired educator highlighted the merits of food security in the country, noting that it brings economic growth through job creation and reduced import bills. He added that access to nutritious food improves health outcomes, communities thrive, and national stability is enhanced with reduced reliance on imports.
“Poverty rates also drop as livelihoods in agriculture flourish. Investing in agriculture isn’t just about farming; it’s about securing the future of Kenya’s youth and the nation.” He noted
Nyarera, who is a former Principal of Tendere High school in Kisii County among many others in the country, further advised teachers to always love their students and staff like their own family, saying without unconditional love and empathy, any success is unattainable.
