St Anthony’s Boys High School, Kitale will represent Trans-Nzoia County in Rugby 15s at the upcoming Rift Valley Secondary Schools Term One Games in Nakuru, following a dramatic turn of events after a successful appeal.

The school was declared county champions after rivals Bwake Boys were disqualified for fielding an ineligible player in their Rugby 15s team.

Bwake had initially defeated St Anthony’s 11-5 in the county final played a week ago at Kitale Club grounds.

St Anthony’s lodged an official protest challenging the eligibility of one of Bwake’s players.

Upon review, the appeal was upheld, and Bwake Boys were found guilty of fielding a player who was not a bona fide student of the school.

The disciplinary action led to their disqualification, handing St Anthony’s the county title.

The decision has reignited the long-standing rivalry between the two schools, which have traditionally battled for supremacy in both football and rugby.

Allegations have also emerged that Bwake Boys has, for several years, engaged in similar schemes to gain unfair advantage over other schools.

With the ruling, St Anthony’s Boys are now officially the Trans-Nzoia County Rugby 15s champions and will carry the county’s hopes to the regional games in Nakuru.

The team will also represent the county in hockey.

Other Trans-Nzoia representatives include St Joseph’s Boys, who will compete in handball and basketball, while St Joseph’s Girls will feature in handball, hockey, basketball, and lacrosse. St Brigid Girls Kiminini will defend their 5×5 basketball title.

Intense competition is expected in rugby, basketball and handball as schools across the Rift Valley battle for regional glory next week.
