Tragedy struck Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) after two of its students were found dead at a residence in Maraba estate, Kakamega County, prompting a police investigation.
The students have been identified as Dariel Jedidiah Luvonga, a third-year student pursuing a Bachelor of Education Arts, and Carey Chibukosia, a second-year Education Science student. Their bodies were transferred to Kakamega Referral Hospital morgue as investigations continue.
In an official communication to staff and students, Vice Chancellor Prof. Solomon Shibairo described the development as “deeply saddening” and urged the university community to remain calm while authorities probe the circumstances surrounding the deaths.

“The DCI is actively conducting investigations into the incident,” the statement read. “Our prayers and sympathies are with the families and friends of the deceased during this very difficult time.”
Prof. Shibairo added that further updates will be communicated once the police conclude their inquiries.
The university community has been left shocked by the incident, and security and counseling measures are reportedly being offered to students coping with the loss.
The circumstances of the deaths remain unclear, and police have not ruled out foul play as investigations proceed.
