The Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Sotik branch has ushered in a new era of leadership following its recent elections, with leaders set to serve from 2025 to 2031.

The elections, marked by high participation and enthusiasm from teachers across the sub-county, show John Korir elected as the branch Executive Secretary and Athanus Kenduiywo elected as chairman.

Speaking after election, Korir expressed his commitment to serving teachers. “I am deeply honoured to serve as the Branch Executive Secretary of KNUT Sotik. My focus will be ensuring transparent communication, smooth administration, and that every teacher feels heard and represented.” He said

Korir emphasized the team’s vision, adding, “Our mandate is clear: to prioritize teacher welfare, support professional development, and create platforms for teachers to thrive in their careers.”

Korir assured members that the new leadership will work collaboratively, saying, “This leadership team is committed to working collaboratively, fostering unity among teachers, and ensuring that the Sotik branch remains strong and active.”

Additionally, Paul Sigei was elected as vice chairperson, Chirchir Charles as assistant executive secretary, Pauline Tonui as treasurer, and Beatrice Ngeno Kendagor as assistant treasurer.

The leadership team also includes Jackline Chelangat Mitei representing women teachers and Francis Rono as the representative for persons living with disabilities.

The branch’s zonal leadership, known as the Branch Education Committees (BECs), also saw a fresh crop of leaders take office. Anderson Kipyegon Korir leads Kipsonoi Zone, Benard Langat takes Sotik Zone, Gladys Chebet heads Kamungei Zone, and Haron Too represents Abosi Zone. The other zones are led by Kirui Benard in Tarakwa, Rotich in Rongena, Ann Chepkorir in Ndanai, and Kipkorir Paul in Kapletundo.

During the handover and post-election engagements, the new leadership pledged to put teachers at the centre of their agenda.

Chairman Kenduiywo assured members that the team would work with transparency and integrity. “To all teachers in Sotik, I pledge dedication, transparency, and integrity in all our activities. Your voices will be central to every decision we make.”
