The elections of Narok KUPPET branch will be held today at the William ole Ntimama Stadium under heightened security, months after the initial exercise was cancelled in January following chaotic scenes.
The Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) Narok Branch polls had earlier been conducted at Ole Tipis Girls High School but were called off after security was breached and the voting process disrupted.
At the time, the elections had started peacefully, with teachers arriving from across the county to elect their officials.
However, the situation deteriorated when a group of individuals allegedly forced their way into the venue after overpowering security officers, raising concerns over the safety of voters, officials and election materials.
Police intervened to restore calm, arresting several suspects accused of inciting the chaos. All ballot boxes and materials were secured as investigations commenced, forcing the union to postpone the exercise.

As voting takes place today, security agencies have been fully briefed to prevent a repeat of the January incident. Officers have been deployed at strategic points around the stadium to ensure only accredited teachers access the polling centre.
The contest remains highly competitive, particularly for the Executive Secretary position where incumbent Charles Ngeno faces a stiff challenge from Saruni Tasur. Treasurer Seela Kuluo is battling Ruth Bosibori in another closely watched race, while Branch Chairperson Samson Soit is defending his seat against Kipkoech Chepkwony.
KUPPET elections are held every five years, and today’s exercise is expected to conclude a long-awaited leadership transition for the Narok branch amid calls for peaceful and transparent voting.
