Kisii MCA recognised by Red Cross for championing education, youth empowerment

Masige East MCA Michael Motume has been recognised by the Kenya Red Cross for his outstanding efforts in promoting education and youth empowerment in his ward. The acknowledgement came as the Red Cross presented him with a life certificate of membership at his ward office.

Mogeni, Kisii and Nyamira County Red Cross Coordinator, flanked by Area Programmes Officer Henry Moria, highlighted the importance of leaders like Motume in guiding youth to participate in Red Cross activities. “Leaders are pivotal in mobilizing communities, especially the youth, to contribute to disaster mitigation and response efforts,” Mogeni said.

Mogeni also urged headteachers to encourage Red Cross clubs in their schools, enabling learners to develop leadership skills and a servant leadership attitude.

The Red Cross can significantly benefit rural areas like Kisii through disaster response, providing emergency aid during landslides, floods, and other calamities common in the region. They also promote environmental conservation by advocating for sustainable practices like tree planting to mitigate environmental degradation and landslides.

The organization empowers youth by training them in first aid, disaster response, and leadership skills. Additionally, they offer essential health services, including blood donation drives, health education, and disease prevention programs. MCA Motume pledged to continue supporting Red Cross initiatives, emphasizing the importance of community involvement in disaster preparedness and environmental conservation.
