TSC Chairman Dr. Jamleck Muturi. TSC has rolled out a nationwide exercise to update records of registered teachers who are currently not employed.

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has rolled out a nationwide exercise to update records of registered teachers who are currently not employed by the Commission, in a move aimed at enhancing teacher workforce planning and informing future recruitment policies.

In a public notice and consent advisory issued this week, the commission said the exercise is intended to update its existing database in order to accurately establish the demand and supply of qualified teachers across the country.

The data collected will guide planning and policy decisions within the education sector.

TSC stated that the exercise is anchored in Article 237(2) and (3) of the Constitution of Kenya, which mandates the Commission to register trained teachers, review standards of education and training for those entering the profession, assess teacher demand and supply and advise the national government on matters relating to the teaching service.

The initiative is also in line with Section 24 of the TSC Act, 2012, which requires the commission to maintain a public register containing details of every registered teacher, including their qualifications and other prescribed particulars.

According to the notice, the update targets teachers who are registered with TSC but are not currently on its payroll.

The required information includes personal details such as name, gender, ethnicity, national identification number, county and sub-county of origin, address and phone number, as well as academic and professional qualifications, subject specialization or combination, level of training and disability status where applicable.

As part of the process, teachers will be required to give consent for the commission to collect and process their personal data.

The consent declaration clearly states that submission of information does not create any expectation of employment or any other benefit.

TSC assured that all data will be processed and stored in accordance with the Data Protection Act and its Privacy Notice.

Affected teachers have been directed to submit their details online through the TSC website under the “Online Services” menu by selecting “Teacher Profile Update,” or through the Commission’s online portal.

The deadline for submission is March 16, 2026, at midnight.

The Commission has emphasized that the exercise is strictly a data update initiative and not a recruitment advertisement.

Education stakeholders say the move could help improve staffing strategies, particularly at a time when concerns over teacher shortages and equitable distribution of educators remain prevalent across various regions of the country.
