A teacher has been arrested at the Kerugoya School for the Deaf in Kirinyaga County over allegations of defiling two minors with hearing disabilities.
According to officials, the suspect, a male teacher at the school, is accused of sexually abusing two deaf students under his care.
The mother of an Eight-year-old victim said she reported the matter to the police after her daughter complained of pain. The child was taken to hospital, where medical records confirmed that she had been sexually exploited. The records also indicated that this was not the first time she had been abused.
It is reported that the teacher is also facing similar charges of sexually exploiting a 13-year-old student. The incident has triggered widespread condemnation, with many questioning how such acts could occur in a learning environment meant to nurture and protect vulnerable children.
Police reports indicate that they have partnered with investigative agencies to ensure the matter is handled thoroughly.

Parents and residents say the institution established as a safe haven for children with disabilities has become the scene of a profound betrayal of trust. They are demanding a comprehensive review of safety protocols, especially in boarding and special needs schools, to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Kirinyaga Woman Representative Njeri Maina said her office is deeply saddened and outraged by the reported cases of defilement involving minors at Kerugoya School for the Deaf, allegedly perpetrated by a male teacher.
She stated that the allegations represent a serious violation of the rights, dignity, and safety of children, particularly those living with disabilities.
“Schools are meant to be safe spaces that nurture growth, learning, and development. Any act of sexual abuse within such an institution is not only criminal but also a profound betrayal of the trust placed in caregivers, educators, and administrators,” she said.
She added that her office is working closely with the relevant authorities to ensure the matter is thoroughly investigated and that appropriate action is taken without delay.
